Goddess Gaia

Courtesy of Photo Bucket

Gaia
Goddess of Earth
Your core sustains us
Your beauty -
flawless in its natural perfection.

You slumber peacefully,
trusting us with your care -
resting serenely
within Earth’s lair.

Yet we abuse your generosity
by dining greedily at your table
refusing others
as they wither away in starvation.

We repay you with acts of atrocities
no longer honoring
the life of your animals -
but savagely slay them
pummel them
slice them
alive
as they scream
as they plead
with terrified eyes.

And their crimson tears
seep deep into your Earth
carrying witness to you
of cruelties suffered
at the hands of your guests.

And I observe you Goddess Gaia
I feel you Mother Earth,
Giver of Life -
hearing the cries of the poor
feeling the pain of the slain
and you weep torrents
for having misjudged
and entomb yourself
deeper -
further -
into your own tears
of anguished pain.

Rebecca,

We endanger ourselves with the pitfalls of our own making. When would we human realize that we are not invincible and that our survival depends much in how we take care of our home, the only plannet we have earth.

We are slowly gnawing our life and one day we will just wake up standing in a groundless place for we have eaten up the hands that feed us.

Humans, we are too ungrateful. When would we ever get enough of life and learn to give back?

I wish you well.

In addition to the power which I feel as well as have the others who commented before, I am drawn in by the almost respiratory nature of the shape of the poem when one examines the width of the lines...

It is wider and wider, then narrower and narrower, just as an inspiration, an expiration.

Beautiful on multiple levels, Rebecca!

It's so easy to become complacent and indifferent.

Amen and Awomen!

I am posting about Gaia's albedo...not her libido. The Earth is such a finely tuned entity. It is amazing how stupid we are. We think that the we can just keep taking this and dumping that and that it doesn't matter.

I saw a segment of a doc exploring the middle of the Pacific Ocean where all the currents collect and swirl in a ginormous vortex of discarded or lost plastic...
absolutely obscene...
out in the middle of nowhere.

Everything matters, every action counts...
it all ends up somewhere.

truly amazes me that the sun rises every morning and sets every night.. that the basics of life we so take for granted.. the stars in the sky.. a sunny day... rain water... appears in a cycle we've always known... i wonder what will happen when it becomes irreversable...
